Not having experience with butterfly photography, I took the easy route for this shot, a local butterfly house. Even then I found myself spinning in circles attempting to capture their portraits.0T7A1064 small.jpeg

Come to Hawaii! No need of butterfly house and no need to circle around: if you know the food plant they will circle around you (well, I mean the Monarch Butterfly! For the rare others -good luck!).

Correct but I wage war on them in any form ;)
When the last time did you win the battle?! I remember years ago getting into infested oak forest (Europe) and killing bunch of another species: Lymantria dispar. Short after that it was itching all over my exposed parts :oops:! I don't think I made any difference with my "war": the forest after my "war" was looking as bad as before and two days after even worst!

I'm American so I just shoot them out of the trees. Right after the "Hold my beer". LOL
In reality I do not think there is a chance of wining. In fruit trees the nests are low enough to cut and burn but any large deciduous trees there is not much we can do.
