Canon EOS R1 & Canon EOS R5 Mark II announcement coming July 17

A9iii is the future, and the best MILC that has been created to date. What the original A9 was for stacked BSI sensors and high speed AF, the A9iii is for global shutter and even better AF.
Not for anyone that actually knows how to make photos and earns their living that way. The LED lighting thing is hilarious.... The autofocus and IQ went backwards. The camera is still built like crap... Same power delivery...... Same terrible ergonomics...

We live in a time where people listen to idiots like Gerald, Chris and Tony (well, Tony isn't an idiot.. he knows what pays) on YouTube... None of which has ever done anything other than grift.

Indeed. Why, just look at the amazing advancement in low ISO dynamic range that Sony has delivered, compared to the original a7 from 11 years ago!

Thanks for the laugh. Do you even bother actually taking photos/shooting video, or do you just like to talk about specs online?

The A9iii is no doubt an impressive innovation, but it's nowhere near being the "best" MILC for... anything; evidenced by all the pros shunning it. I have no doubt Sony will continue to push the market, and innovate, but the A9iii is nowhere close to being the preferred choice for working professionals, even those in fields where a global shutter has the most value.

Given the R5's loyal following, I expect the R52 will be in high demand. If you think you might want it, my advice would be to go ahead and preorder. If recent history is any guide, it will be weeks, if not months, after the official announcement before units start shipping to regular users in any meaningful quantity ("regular users" = not selected pros and without an established YouTube review channel with lots of followers). If the early reviews convince you it's not for you, you can always cancel your preorder. But with demand that high, it may be a long time before camera shops have "display" units for people to try out in-store.
Unfortunately French or German stores do not accept preorders.:cry::cry:

If possible order the camera within the first hour of it being released. There is then a good chance that you will have a copy from the first batch that ship.

There will be demand quantity for the R52. The announcement was delayed. It won't be a Fuji thing. This comes from retailers that do talk to me.

There will be 3 allocations in August through September.

The problem with the A9M3 is that the full well capacity of the sensor is probably slightly less than half of non-GS modern sensors, because of the extra space taken up by the global shutter electronics.

This results in a high base ISO (250) and correspondingly lower DR at its base ISO compared to other cameras' base ISO (64 or 100). At ISO 250 and especially at ISO 800 and beyond, I think it is reasonably competitive.

That is great news that Canon is planning three allocations in August through September. I am glad that Canon is doing their best to avoid the Fuji scenario.

Lol. At ISO 800 and beyond there was no difference between the 5DIII and the D800/810. But the better low ISO DR of the Sony sensor meant that the 5DIII delivered “Poor, sub-par IQ,” (yes, that’s a direct quote from someone here, back in the day), and that Canon was doomed.

Shockingly, they weren’t. Sorry for the spoiler, folks.

Well if Canon wasn't doomed before, then Sony isn't doomed here either :p They will just continue along their separate development paths.

Which ones,please?
OK, I was too fast answering, ONLY AFTER it's official.
(I tried already 2 weeks ago with no success)
I just go to my local camera store guys and ask them to be put on a list for the new body when it ships. Its unofficial. They won't even acknowledge or guarantee a new body is shipping anytime. But they want my business and know that if they don't, I'll go to a competitor. I've bought 3 bodies in the past this way. After being a pro for awhile, I realized my best value is to get a new body as soon as possible after it ships so I get as much use out of that body's tech as I can. Its been 4 yrs now with my R5. 395,000 shutter count. It'll become my #2 body as I often shoot with two cameras.

It certainly is the best for video. It’s ranked as having equal exposure latitude (real world dynamic range) to the Red V-Raptor-X. That’s no mean feat. I’ve shot with all of these cameras… owned the R3 since launch and only recently sold it. I’ve compared these cameras back to back. I’ve also compared them to my Reds. If you actually shoot with the A9III you would change your tune pretty quick. I was more skeptical than you when I purchased it.

That said, I know many are hoping the bar is so low, that Canon can just deliver a slightly refreshed R3, slap an R1 badge on it and call it a day… That trick is not going to fool everyone.
