Canon EOS R1, EOS R5 Mark II and CF-R20EP Short Supply Notice

I wonder if this is truly from numerous orders or if it is an "apple supply notice" where they create very few devices and then claim supply is low to boost sales.
That’s a very dangerous business strategy in competitive markets. Production always ramps up over time, and forecasting demand volume is notoriously a black art. The old saying to make hay while the sun shines is good business advice. As Canon surely knows.

When I purchased my R5 I did the pre-order within seconds of the announcement and received the camera ina few weeks. When I bought my R3 I wasn’t quite as quick so I ordered it through Canon and received it much quicker than expected, like 3 or 4 weeks.

My thought was that since Canon and the dealers were both asking the same price, Canon would make more profit selling directly so it was in their economic interest to sell as many as possible as opposed to through dealers.

I have a Japanese translator in our office, I asked her and she gave me this before I showed her what it translated too, she laughed as well at the one by one, that is not correct,.

"The shipment is scheduled accordingly, however it may take extra lead time than normal."

awesome! though the one by one was amusing.

kill the Speedlight EL-1, kill the Speedlight EL-5 and stop taking the piss with the Speedlight EL-100. Look at the Godox V860iii and make an affordable full sized speedlite with a light attatched at the front to help with focusing in dark places, clubs etc.. and we'll all buy it.

It could be, but that RF 200-800 is apparently not shipping again until August, that's a bit excessive for marketing based demand.
I'm not in the market for a 200-800, but my preferred supplier has one available in their Used Equipment list at £2199 - sadly I suspect that you are the other side of the Atlantic!

I'm so glad I pre-ordered the 200-800. That thing is absolutely amazing besides some minor quirks. My favorite lens on RF so far.

I have seen a lot of great work done with the 200-800, I'm happy people are loving it. Initial reviews weren't always positive, but once again, out in the real world after 6-8 months of being in people's hands, it's a great value lens. I would like to pick one up now.

Now they need to get it in more people's hands. The next allocation is apparently in about 2 weeks.

The EL-1 has been a trainwreck.... What an odd history it has had. I went godox, I use a flash so rarely.

It reminds me of the 100-500L, the initial (p)reviews were mixed, but 4 years later it is the favorite lens for a lot of wildlife focused content creators (Jan Wegener, Duade Patton and others). I think @rbielefeld said the 200-800 was his favorite lens a few weeks back as well.

The 100-500 was the only long lens I brought to Mongolia for the Pallas's Cat. I didn't like the idea of running through snow with a big white. There was no worries about backgrounds, and it was a great decision... what a lens. From what I have seen, If I had a 200-800, I would have brought it.

The 200-800 is a very tempting lens, but it doesn't fit in any of my current bags (with the body attached) and the magnification ratio is a lot less, so not well suited to close-ups of dragonflies.
I might rent one for the fall holiday where we'll be staying at an remote island with lots of shore birds and a few bald eagles, hopefully my R5II pre-order ships before then :)

Did you get the quintessential shot of the cats sitting on their tails to keep their paws warm?

I received a call yesterday notifying me that my R5II will be in on August 20th. My supplier has been 100% reliable on arrival dates for 40 years. I kind of have a standing order for any top of the line camera that Canon produces, sometimes I take them and sometimes I pass. The R5II will be one that I keep.
