It does have QPAF, it's just called cross-type DPAF.

According to its limitations (written you know where in specs) - not working in video, not working in manual assist etc. - it's more like DPAF plus IBIS-assisted sensor shift.

I don\'t know, but are those features worth the premium over the R3?

For some, yes.

Makes me wonder why the R3 has flash with electronic shutter, but the R1 (according to the leaked specs) doesn't.

We had a copy of the specifications but the format was horribly trashed i will look to see if i can find that for you now though.

no word .. there's nothing in the writeup so it's probably safe to assume it's 14 bit.

the specs are a mess - extremely difficult to read.

Still don\'t understand why this is not just an R3 mark II. Unless Canon really wanted the R1 name in the lineup and a future R3 will have global shutter sensor or something radically different.

because the R3 isn't a 1 series camera.

that means something to canon and there's a lot in the R1 that isn't in the R3.

The R1 sits at the top of the lineup.

The auto focus improvements including cross type alone are significant. it's a much faster sensor, better EVF, better AF. I'm not but if it is superior to the R3 in almost every single way what more would you want?

I’m impressed with Adobe’s upscaling, but hope Canon’s in-camera upscaling is using multiple frames or ibis rather than just AIing it. Still, would take the capability of doing it in-camera as a win we didn’t have before.

DGO I am still not convinced would work well in a stills environment.

The resolution was never a 1 series thing.

Canon does need an R1s though for that very reason

I would agree, but DGO would be neat if it did/does work well in photo mode. R3 already does extremely well with back lit subjects while maintaining the highlights and bringing up the shadows in photos. That would only enhance it imo
