Canon EOS RV Image Leaks Out: The Small Mirrorless We Have Been Wanting

Is this just another EF-M version of EF? Call me cynical (and worse) but are the lame RF-S lenses, the native choice for this new system? If it going to come with new lenses they had better be something a little more interesting. Look at Nikon's DL cameras, take those three lenses and put the equivalent for whatever sensor size comes with this new model/line. I wonder what those Nikon designs of the DL cameras are thinking today? Alternatively a nice set of f/2 primes from 18mm equivalent through to 85mm equivalent plus macro & fisheye.

Canon, why couldn't you just have made this compatible with the EF-M lenses? My M6II needs a faster, smarter sister...

I agree that the RF-S lens lineup is very low-effort from Canon, cannot even match the old EF-M or the competitors. But you cannot make RF cameras compatible with EF-M lenses, that is not possible.

This will indeed be an interesting camera. Looking at the image I disagree about the grill on the top being for cooling it looks more as a mic grill with one smaller on the back probably directed more to the operator and the large one to the subject. That would be a logical move for a vlogging camera. I doubt they would put a cooling exhaust so close to the microphone on a vloging camera since that would interfere with the sound to much.
I would personally prefer a 24 mpx sensor just a newer version that is faster than their current apsc lineup. Looking forward in what this years brings.

Certainly not the case because the same models for Sony and Fujifilm don't have the IS either. It's just Sigma saving production cost leaving out features on purpose so they can release a Mark II in a couple of years and cash again.
IBIS is really not preferable for vlogging cameras.
It is not really necessary at wide angles and causes more harm than good.

No EVF -> no purchase.
But the bezel on the back looks like an eyepiece.
No EVF was the reason I ignored the new fuji X-M5, even though I have a couple excellent compact fuji lenses that would go well on it.

I'd be happy for an 'in body' EVF, rather than one that sticks out the top though. Had that on my old fuji x-e3, and worked well.

Still looking for the perfect small companion to my R5. With the fall of the eos-m, there's nothing that's quite got my attention. I may just get the fuji X-T50. It's small enough, as the EVF, and I've already got a collection of small, light, excellent lenses for it.

So I suspect we'll just see the 24MP sensor - again.
I personally think 24 MP is much better suited for a general purpose APS-C camera. I have an R7 and use it mostly for tele photography (birding), there its high resolution makes sense, but also demands for relatively fast shutter speeds to freeze motion. Plus, if well-made, a 24 MP APS-C sensor would be also nice for lower light conditions. And less MP is better for a faster read-out, since I guess that Canon will implement a conventional sensor like in the R7, so the RV might be less prone to distorted images when shot in full electronic shutter mode. Overall I like the idea of bringing out such a tiny camera. I always was hoping for something like the M series, but with an EF mount, now it comes for the RF mount - great!
