Canon teases Canon EOS R8 and Canon EOS R50 announcement happening this week

Top plate has been redesigned along with welcome internal changes(USB port being 10Gbps from mere 480Mbps). Buffer is massive for camera in its class. Sure missing 8 way controller is a let down but not at all a deal breaker(unlike R50 which has UHS-I SD slot).

The top plate hasn't been redesigned, the main piece is the same, with cutouts being shaped differently. The entire rear of the camera is exactly identical as well.

I was curious too see what the M50 replacement would look like. Nothing to see here for me. Had there been a 22mm or some other EF-M lens replacements offered, I might have considered it. But as it stands, my M50 and 22mm f/2 still work perfectly well for my compact needs. But it's nice that there are so many R bodies to choose from now. The more options, the merrier.

As a small side note, does anyone else find the bevel on the mount of RF-S lens ugly? I would take a slightly wider but flush barrel over the ugly slanted one any day.

The R8 is literally just the RP with a new name lmao Canon is so lazy. They couldn't even add a joystick or control wheel.
Do you mean the look of it? Who on earth cares about that?: they are releasing a mini-R6II at a massive discount, less a number of features (including handling and body elements) that a bunch of people (myself being one) would not have used in the R6II anyway. I'd love (for eg) IBIS, but the specs are highly appealing at the price (and size and weight) point. I think it'll sell like hotcakes.

I care because the RP is not a very great body to begin with (it’s 5 years old now). Canon being lazy means that same design without a wheel or joystick (even the r10 has a joystick and costs less).

Sure - and we all have different priorities. But this has the R6II sensor, CPU, AF and most in-camera processing and video modes, for about 2/3 the price of the R6II. There are always going to be compromises, and IBIS is probably the biggest from my point of view - but not redesigning an 'adequate' but uninspiring body design is certainly not the worst I can think of. It's not lazy, it's just reflective of the price point and the need to differentiate from its higher status sibling.

Low cost, but also light and small. I’m interested in it for the last two, especially compared to my R3. Most of my use will be on a tripod, so I’m not bothered by the low end EVF or cramped ergonomics.

However, an important consideration for me will be the availability of a good quality L-bracket (RRS, Kirk). RRS made one for the RP, I hope they will for the R8. I inquired with them about it. They were forthcoming when I inquired about a plate for the R3.
I am guessing that the footprint of the R8 is identical to the RP and that the grip extension will fit both cameras . I read somewhere an interview with the design team of the RP and a lot of thought and work had gone onto that design. It feels so good in the hand (with grip) I think it would be a shame to change it.
