Canon EOS R50 V Specifications

What is movie auto slow shutter?
It's a feature where the shutter speed is automatically reduced when it gets too dark. This brightens up the image but may lead to stuttering images. Basically every camera and phone on the planet has that, it's not a new feature.
EDIT: According to the manual, the R50 had it too: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART182802
Likely they just put the setting into a new "mode" so you can quickly access it instead of having to toggle the setting. The R50 (and R50V) are beginner's cameras, so it has some redundant options/modes and explanations built in.

I have no f/1.2 lenses, but I would use my 50VCM on it! And in the theoretical case I’d get an R50V, I’d get the sigma 56mm.

So no 1.2, but 1.4, which I have had run into issues on bright days and ‘slow’ shutters.
I definitely would put my 85 1.2 on that thing just for fun.

Forgot about the 28mm
Yea seems to have the same depth as the M22mm 2.0, just bigger (not made for apsc), darker, not as wide fov and generally not a great lens, but flat.

Nope, that's the reason R50V is out. If you need EVF, get the normal EVF
Not an option, need a compact camera, the question is will there be an external EVF like with the M6 II. If not that's a dealbreaker. Don't care about the video I just want an updated M6II.

Does the R50 V have a standard built-in EVF ?
This is being geared towards Vloggers/Video.. Thus the V. They don't need an EVF. This is a Vlog camera that CAN take photos if you want, not the other way around. Different market, This is possibly not going to be the best option for people that want to primary do photography... Canon has other great options for that.

Perception is a funny thing, if someone would release a body with the same stills features and controls as the V1, and judging from the rumours, the R50V, but without any video it would be hailed as "photography first" and "not some vlogger nonsense." Just look at the reactions to the EVF-less and dial-challenged Sigma BF body. Now add video features and suddenly people on the interweb say it's unsuited for stills...

Software based distortion correction and 'missing' EVFs seem to evoke strong feelings from commenters on the interwebs, I bet it helps with keeping the lights on here at CR :)

Yep, I think people are forgetting that we're now getting to the point where a large portion of the potential market are people who have never known a viewfinder in their life -- that's the demo where canon is looking at to fuel some growth.

Agreed! And besides that, I prefer no EVF over a crappy EVF. So on my R5II I mostly use the EVF, but on my now-sold M50 the EVF was offensively bad and, for me, a waste of space. So the R50V formfactor is a two-for-one: it appeals to a new demographic and it doesn't offend me by having a headache inducing EVF.

I am looking at R8 too, but cannot find small (short) good RF Lens..
Same problem here. That's why I went the R50+Sigma route.

But let's think together, what could be "your" good RF lens:
Firstly, it depends on the focal length and the f number you want to cover.
With my R6m2, I tried the
RF100-400: Great budget and weight tele, good MFD, but not short. But my travel tele to go.
RF24-105/4L: Great FL IMO. Too big.
RF24-105 STM: Great FL IMO but a big compromise in f. And still too big for me.
EF24-70+Adapter: still too big.
RF 15-30: not my FL
RF 24-50: small but for that f compromise no good FL

So let's go the prime way:
RF16: not my FL
RF28STM: you mentioned it to be not fast enough. I love it. Sweet little pankake, good IQ
RF35STM: No experience, no wish to get since I have the 28
RF50STM: The RF nifty fifty. Good, small and cheap standard FL. AF a little bit slow
RF80STM: supposedly too big and too much portrait. AF relatively slow

Hope that helped a bit.

Edit: I did forget the
RF28-70STM: Could be interesting, quite expensive, good f, but is it small enough for you?

When Canon released the pancake 28mm at F2.8.. My dream of bright 28mm gone in the wind.. My first prime was EF 28mm 1.8.
Sorry, but that smells like an excuse. Or at least something not completely thought out.

If you were using the EF 28/1.8 on a FF DSLR, the combo of the R8 with the RF 24/1.8 or 35/1.8 would be shorter overall, and deliver better image quality.

If you were using the EF 28/1.8 on an APS-C DSLR, the combo of the R8 with the RF 28/2.8 would still be shorter, and it would be just as bright since f/1.8 on a crop sensor is equivalent to f/2.9 on a full frame sensor like that in the R8.
