Can't say I have any complaints about RF lenses getting dirty or easily scratched. The lens hoods are scratch magnets, it feels like one wrong look at them and they get scratched. But lenses are holding up fine. Didn't have any paint issues either, which is to be expected, as many parts of RF lenses aren't actually painted but rather plastic and colored throughout the material.

One thing that I absolutely despise about the RF mount is the rear cap design. It is so frustrating to use and you can only mount it correctly one single way. EF rear caps were so much better, they had 3 different angles you could pop them on. Even 4 years later, I still battle with RF rear caps.

Oh boy yes. I almost forgot how infuriating the RF caps felt, when I first changed system from EF.
Those things were designed by a drunk for aliens with four arms. On EF I could easily change lenses and put caps on without looking at them.

The paint chips around the mount on EF lenses were always ugly. Unfortunately inevitable.
I haven't had any issues with my RF lenses though I am careful of them.

I am guessing that you are referring to the RF white lenses.... If they are working okay, why would you replace them? For the big whites, there are camo kits. I haven't seen any for RF70-200 though but haven't looked a lot.

Yep - my EF 70-200 f/2.8L ii lost a noticeable amount of white paint by the mount. Pretty surprised as I usually take pretty good care of my gear, but obviously not good enough in this case.

I think that all those companies that do gray imports work on a similar principle, so I wouldn't really say that everything in terms of taxes is clean and without cheating, on the contrary.

Here's what they say about VAT in their FAQ...

4. Are you able to provide a VAT invoice?
While we will pay for all import and customs charges, we are unable to provide a VAT invoice, as we are not a VAT company.

And let's be clear, I have nothing against such companies (Panamoz, E-Infinity...). Their prices seem much more realistic to me.

DJI smartphone integration feels like EV vs 20 year old car when compared to Canon.

I'd take any 20 year old car (with low mileage if possible ) over any EV.

I think that all those companies that do gray imports work on a similar principle, so I wouldn't really say that everything in terms of taxes is clean and without cheating, on the contrary.

But, as a customer, you buy a product which you acquire in a fully legal way.
Which wouldn't be the case if you bought the same item in, for instance, Hong Kong, without declaring it to the customs of your country of residence. Not a case of tax evasion for the end-customer.
I am no longer willing to accept fantasy prices because I live in "rich" Europe. We do not even get special Canon offers like US customers, for a set of reasons.The price difference is simply too high! Panamoz will get my money.

I totally agree with you. I buy in authorized Canon stores only if for some reason I have to justify the bill - for example, when using financial support from EU funds or when my business would be subject to VAT, but it is not (I am in a flat-rate taxation system in which I cannot show costs or use VAT deduction). In other cases, either E-Infinity (or Panamoz - thanks for the tip) or trusted dealers of used equipment.

...although, to follow up on my comment, sometimes even within the EU, especially in Germany, there can be excellent prices for some pieces of equipment even at authorized dealers. for example, at the beginning of January this year, the R6 was sold for under €1,500 with a free additional original battery.

Autofocus true the viewfinder, wow! Great, a feature that R3 users shut off because it sucks. Great work!

The R5II will actually blow a $6000 Sony A1 out of the water, while being cheaper (probably around $4000). Canon's strategy isn't about winning pissing contests with laboratory features like Sony does with the A9. It's about winning customers.

It's not unclean or cheating at all if they pay the import and customs. VAT registration is a quite different matter.

For me, the question is what does a new tool enable me to do that my currrent tools dont and are the new things I can do worth what i would have to spend on it. It isn't about A1 vs Z8 or what ever other camera might be out there. I don't care about stacked or front side illuminated sensors or other bits of technology either. I dont care about the "XXX has the new eXpeed/Bionz processor" marketing. I wonder how many posts are intended to drive negative feelings about Canon, probably in hopes that somebody who is new to photography hits something from the post in a search engine. My guess is old Canon cameras are more Canon's competition than anything else. What does the new tool allow me to do that my current tools dont, how much does it cost and how long do I think it will last. Right now, I dont know enough about what the R5 mark II will do that the R5 does not to say that I will buy one.

I guessed you live in the $ony Galactic Empire... R5 R6 stopped EF users jump ship to $ony. R5ii will be a better Z8&a1 for the Canon side...if you just want megapickels, get Dji's X2D

Along the lines of winning customers, I'm rather surprised the Z8 hasn't driven the A1's price down. One would imagine this late in the cycle Sony would be interested in moving units out of inventory.

I don't understand the anti-EV protestors. We all have choice. No one is forcing anyone to buy a car with a particular type of fuel. Some cars will be better at some things vs others. Very weird!

I switched to a BEV this year and I don't have to pay USD2500/year in fuel as there is no cost to charge at home and no scheduled maintenance. Brakes replaced at ~200,000kms vs USD2k every 50,000kms on my previous car. It just made financial sense to me and with some new toys in it made it great value.

When R5 R6 was out, a9ii didn't reduce the price, so it's normal that a1 will not. Sony isn't making much of it, and their components are shared with lower-end models(hello 92k LCD). Cost-wise I don't think it is affecting Sony much.
