Canon EOS R7 V & Canon EOS R7 Mark II Coming in 2025?

[...]Almost none of their cameras have built in GPS.[...]
Using Camera Connect on my phone for GPS has been surprisingly robust the past year for me. There are still a few untagged photos at the start if I don't wait a few seconds, but no stale coordinates for disconnects during shooting. It is now on par with using a GP-E2, which also causes missing locations if you forget to turn it on in time, which is 5 minutes before shooting.

I would still prefer builtin GPS or a camera powered GPS through the new fangled hotshoe, but, for me, the phone based GPS has reached "good enough" at this point. I do keep a backup tracklog on my phone all the time, that is for catching untagged photos.

But I'm a hobbyist who doesn't stray outside of cell tower coverage often, so "good enough" for me is likely "hilariously unsuited" for others.

I agree it has worked flawlessly for me. My main problem is I keep forgetting to turn it on. That is my failure not anything from Canon,

To be fair, my Camera Connect experience was with a 70D ... and that experience was awful. First prize for me would still be a built in GPS, but it's also sad that Canon doesn't allow a connection from the myriad of bluetooth GPS receivers out there.
The biggest improvement for me was someone pointing out that your phone OS needs to allow Camera Connect always access to location information.
My use of ‘surprisingly’ was meant to convey that I can’t really believe that it is now ‘good enough’, Camera Connect has been very unreliable in the past.
