Canon reveals PowerShot V1 Compact Camera

that's where I look, not sure what problem you think I'm having here ;)

ito me the screenshot above the difficulties in finding the m200 look like amazon ... ebay can be pretty bad too ...

i think the m100/m200 2nd hand availability is a different problem - they've arrived at a bigger point in the general camera buying downturn than the m5/m50/m6 so there just aren't as many out there.

B&H never listed the M2 in their catalog. That they’ve added the V1 seems like a backend confirmation it will be announced and available in the US.
On youtube, Jared Polin said that Canon USA contacted him with V1 camera information before it was announced in Japan, and that he would have more information about the camera when he got his hands on it.

"Canon once again apologizes for not having enough cameras to handle the demand. I’m not sure how they continue to do this."

It seems to me that that happens so often, with multiple camera companies, that it's kind of a camera industry cliché.

there could certainly be that. the M50 and M50 Mark II were the popular M cameras. I even see a fair amount of M6 and M6 Mark II's as well.

However, ANYTHING with the Canon name seems to be far more expensive than equivalent Sony's on the used market here in Asia (that's in Thailand and a bit of looking around in Vietnam).

Not sure why to be honest. I'll chat up a few retailers on the used market and see if they can shed info on it.

Oh .. and powershots? forget it.

I already reported that it was going to be Asia first and a global announcement in March and available in April.

Retailers in the US have already been shown the camera...

"Curiously, Canon also mentioned that the PowerShot G7x Mark III and the SX740HS were suspended from production. I didn’t even know production was still happening on those cameras, so I presume we’ll never see them again"

If the translation is correct, I would interpret it that manufacturing capacity is shifting to the V1 and that manufacturing batches for G7xiii and SX740HS will occur in the future once the V1 initial demand has been met.
As long as these older cameras are still profitable and components available, it makes sense to continue to make them if the demand is there and there is no direct replacement.

I don't see why some people are surprised that the PowerShot V1 vlogging camera doesn't have an EVF. The Sony ZV-1 II Vlog camera doesn't have one, the Nikon Z30 vlogging camera doesn't have one, the Sony ZV-E10 II vlogging doesn't have one, the PowerShot G7X which the PowerShot V1 replaces doesn't have one...

Why DOA? Internal ND, 15 fps in a compact camera, DPAF II.... I can see families with kids are getting one.

It might not be your on your wishlist, but I don't see a problem Canon trying to make compact cameras interesting again.
In my 2 cents Z30 is too big, and we all know how "good" Nikon's AF with the Expeed 6 chip. It's behind DiGiC X. And you might as well get mint used M200/M6ii+18-150.
I said it is DOA for me and maybe some traditional photographers. I think it will sell with younger people who are mainly bloggers. There are so many cameras out there, if I need to I will just get a a small travel camera from another manufacturer. That might put Fuji near the top of my list if Canon can't deliver with just a basic EVA..

Yes, that's the target group. : )

Fuji XM5 wins in size/image quality but also no EVF and X100 fixed prime is a limitation.

In terms of size/IQ/lens combo I don't know of anything closer to perfect travel camera than this. Small EVF and 24-70 equivalent F2.8 and that would be it.

The Canon G1Xiii is closer, but a camera unloved by many due to its ‘slow’ lens.
Do Fuji make a 24-70/ 2.8 equivalent lens ? Even if the only ‘equivalent’ part is the 24-70 it would be pretty big on an Xm5 I’d have thought.
