Happy Hallowe’en! Canon to announce 3 lenses on October 31, 2024

I really want that RF 70-150 f/2 IS
That is a lens I would preorder. So far, none of the other recent rumors have interested me though I'm sure they'll be popular releases (especially the 50/1.4, and where is ahsanford when his desire for a 50/1.4 with IS seems ready to be thwarted once again).

Me too. This would definitively get a pre-order from me.

If I remember well, ahsanford wanted OIS in a time when bodies were not yet offering IBIS. So, he'd have no reason to complain, most cameras are now stabilized.
But I fear he could have jumped ship and is now using one of those marvelous incomparable Sonni cameras.

Ha. Scroll up a few posts...

I just hope they'll have IS as hybrid lenses should have...
The 28-70 STM shows how a good IS is useful even if the body has IBIS...

Almost certainly. My understanding is that it will be a more "traditional" 70-200mm design meaning it won't have the same limitations as the controversial compact 70-200mm. For me, the compact RF 70-200mm is the first 70-200mm that I've actually used significantly primarily due to its compact design.
I love my 70-200 2.8 because of the compactness as well.

I can already hear the wailing. The 50mm won't be small enough compared to the competition. Or it won't be big enough. If the 70-200 lens aimed at video can't take a TC, the cries will be heard at the corners of the Earth. Its a fixed zoom that isnt as compact as the collapsing design - this display of Canon's continued wanton malice towards its consumers, and continued compliance with the laws of physics will force many to Sony or Nikon.

Brian

So you might as well pre-whine the whiners?

I am looking forward to the 50 mm f1.4 as well, but undecided on the 70-200 mm f2.8. Still hoping that Canon announces the 200-500 mm f4 later in November when the R1 ships.
perfect world would be one version without the built in 1.4 so it is a little more affordable for those that do not want the 1.4, like ever!

50mm f/1.8: $200
50mm f/1.2: $2100

Let's face it, Canon's 'midrange' 50mm f/1.4 is going to cost $1500, just like their 35mm.

Nah you got it wrong.
1.8 is $180.
1.4 will be $1400.
But anything bellow goes in reverse :
1.2 is $2100.

And releasing it the 10/30 gives us a hint for the 70-200.
Yep.
82mm front element.
8 + 2 = 10.
That gives us the price.

30 x 10 x 10 = $3000 hamburger dollars.

I'm an amateur doing videos since 10 years.

I was waiting for the 50mm 1.4 hopefully with IS.

But I was also willing to add the 70-200 VCM to my list.
I'll buy the 70-200 mm. The resolution of the current 70-200 isn't amazing.
Hopefully it's sharper and has VCM motors and amazing IBIS.
It will just be a killer lens for video.
And if you wonder why an amateur is OK putting 3K down on a lens ?
Well, it holds value better than anything other than gold.

And there won't be no other way to produce 8K sharp stabilised footage while capturing audio without focusing noise.
No brainer if you want to make candid shots of people while boosting Japan's economy.
