Please explain. What does this mean and how does it effect us? Thank you much.Canon has actually started to clamp down on grey market serial numbers. YMMV.
I don't care. I just saved Euro1000 on an RF 15-35 f/2,8.Canon has actually started to clamp down on grey market serial numbers. YMMV.

And about to save Euro 1200 on the 100-500.
It already exists but it's f/1.4Where is 35/1.2?
In many European countries, Canon service is often taken over by reputed subcontractors. The issue is, they won't service them if they catch the serial number, and they actually have systems in place for that. It didn't used to be an issue, but I have about a half a dozen hits to my inbox on the topic. I don't know if it's a geographical thing.
It's just a good idea to know of a third-party service center that can order parts from Canon directly if you run into an issue down the road.
I understand saving cash, I get anything expensive from the US and get it into the EU. I pay enough VAT! I did that for the RF 400 2.8 and saved a bundle. We all have our own tolerance for risk.

And I wouldn't be surprised if EU laws prohibited service refusal by Canon. If, for instance, you'd buy your Renault, VW or Fiat thru a non-official importer, the only real risk is the original manufacturer not granting good-will or trying to reject a disputable warranty claim.
Just like anybody is officially allowed to repair your car, provided they respect the official maintenance procedure and use OEM conform (!!!) parts.
Warranty specialists please chime in and tell us the real facts!![]()
It's a geo thing. They can't discriminate against goods imported into the UK and EU solely on place of origin of buying but only on grounds of safety or different specifications. In any case, in the UK we do have 3rd party authorised repairers. The issue is, they won't service them if they catch the serial number, and they actually have systems in place for that. That remains to be seen. Canon ‘counts’ a lens when it starts shipping, not when they announce it. So far this year, they’ve only shipped three new RF lenses. The 35/1.4 VCM shipped pretty fast, if that’s true here as well and if they ship the 7.8mm VR lens, they’ll be at 6…still 1-2 short of the 7-8 they stated as their plan.So Canon kept it's promise of the number of lenses.![]()
Hmmmm…one is probably the 200-500, but my curiosity is piqued about the other. Two more lenses confirmed along with the aformentioned 3 hybrids. One of them is odd as heck.
I have the RF 50mm 1.2 and RF 85mm 1.2 and they are perfect for photos. The size is the only thing I hate. They are a little slow to focus for video and make a slight noise. I love the size of my RF 35mm 1.4 and I am looking forward to buying the 50mm 1.4 for the smaller size as well. Also, it will focus faster and have less focus breathing for video. Excited. Hopefully, they come out with a RF 85mm 1.4.Lol… I still like to hope!
I do think they need one cheap VCM so that new buyers go..
“you know what, that 50 1.4 is close to the price of the 24mm 1.8 and 85mm 2.0.. I’ll give it a shot”
… and then as we know, they’ll eventually have all the VCMs.
I’m loving the size and weight of the 35mm 1.4 and will be buying the 50mm 1.4 even though I own the 1.2
I just never bring that 50mm 1.2 or 85mm 1.2 anywhere except planned shoots. These 1.4’s are perfect and destroy the 1.8s
I may even sell the 1.2

I don't think so, the trinity is not complete yet ( 50mm f/1,2, 85mm f/1,2 and ???)It already exists but it's f/1.4

Not sure if they're on October 30 as well, but they won't be far behind.
