Canon EOS R50 V Specifications

Ok I was only interested in EVF contacts. But yes interesting, how is this supposed to trigger my studio lights.

The EVF-DC2 has about 20 pins, the multifunction shoe has only 15. You'd need the AD-E1 adapter to fire a 3rd party flash trigger. The Canon ST-E10 will work for Canon RT flashes. Personally, I use the ST-E10 or EL-5 on-camera to trigger Canon RT flashes and optically slave the monolight.

I count about 20 in that image, but the resolution is limiting.
Fair point. The Canon accessories (at least the ones that I have, ST-E10, EL-5 and AD-E1) only have 15 pins but it does look like the shoe has more slots than that (future proofing?).

From Canon (the R8 manual):
Electronic Viewfinder EVF-DC2/EVF-DC1 cannot be attached to the multi-function shoe. Attempting to attach the accessories by force may damage them or the multi-function shoe.

Having said that, maybe the R50 V will have a different multifunction shoe that will allow the old EVFs to work with it. I wouldn't hold my breath for that. But Canon may come out with a new one for people to buy...

I have an original R50 as a backup/travel camera to my R5 II and to use a flash trigger you need the AD-E1 adapter. I use Westcott lights and with the adapter I couldn't get HSS or TTL working, but I think that is more because they haven't added support to the R50. However, if I just use the x-sync center pin mode they work. In studio I'm all manual anyway, so it doesn't bother me. You just might want to check compatibility with your light manufacturer if that is important.

I need to test again as Westcott did come out with a new firmware the beginning of the month, but it was R5 II focused, so I don't think it would have changed anything.

I like this better compared to the old R50 or R100—they felt useless. ...
That's the great thing about product diversity.
What is useless to you, helps me to make great pictures (not the R100 :p ).
And what you like better has (almost) useless ergonomics to me ;)

Great, that Canon offers now both to us - just an attachable EVF is missing

Well, the R10 does exist. I would choose it over the R50/R100 any day. The R50V fills an ultracompact body niche, instead of being a castrated version of the R10. And this adds real diversity.

The APS-C cameras look like a nice additions to the line-up and will be interesting to see how they'll sell. Especially interesting how they'll compete to Sonys ZV line-up. I don´t believe I'll snatch one any time soon, but I'd seriously consider one of them as a go-to lightweight/ space saving set up.

I considered that as well. But having the R6m2 as main body, I was searching for the smallest with the option of an EVF, because in a lot of situations, I need one.

The more choice the better for us. But naming the R50 in the same "value" as the R100 is really not fair ;)

"Crippled", "castrated" - I don't get why people nowadays use such negative wording so often.
Even if you think so, give yourself a little brainteaser how to say it more polite ;)

Personally, looking at the R50, the only thing I really don't like is the hotshoe - or the Canon EL flash offering not giving me something like the EL-100 for direct use with the R50.
Everything else with the R50 is a price/size/value compromise that gives me some other advantages on the other side of the coin.
