Canon reveals PowerShot V1 Compact Camera

the last time I went to Australia, i kind of wondered exactly where I was too ;)
When you have 30% of Australia's population born overseas and ~50% have at least one parent born overseas then you can see that we are diverse.
There has been waves of migration since the convicts were sent out in the 1700s to when the Chinese arrived in the 1800s to the top 3 today from India/China/Philippines.
Of course, the indigenous population arrived about 60,000 years ago.

I wanted a X100VI competitor, but this looks very promising as well for a everyday carry. Cheaper too
I was rooting for that, but it seems that this is mainly a Sony ZV1 competitor. IMO Canon has squandered many opportunities here. Fujifilm X100 series sells like crazy and so does Canons older G7X series (sold out almost everywhere and even used fetches crazy prices). The new camera doesn't fit in any of those target groups. The focal length is to short for people who're looking for a G7X successor (24-100mm) and too slow for people who wanted an alternative for the X100 (35mm f/3 in full frame terms). It's mainly made for TikTok kiddies, that's why it's still gonna sell. I just expected something edgier and cooler.

Canon tries to maximise their sales and (hopefully) profit. It seems that you agree but wanted something else that maybe wouldn't sell as well or that Canon could make or....

The disparity of expectations vs. reality can often lead to feelings of discontentment and unhappiness

The ZV1 also sells a lot as well.

I'm pretty sure Canon looked at this and decided what segment of the market they wanted to target.

Nothing wrong with "tiktok kiddies" either, they need cameras as much as everyone else does.

There is a USB-C port, but no word on if it's a charging port. if it can't charge the camera, then I'm not sure it would release in Europe

Here is a line from the Canon Japan site "Continuous shooting time is shorter when USB power is supplied than when using batteries (heat-generating batteries< USB power supply)" . That says it has an internal USB power supply capable of running the camera, so battery charging is pretty certain. Note that shooting time is not limited on battery if temp cutoff is set to high, so probably not limited on USB power either. That leaves the card size as the only limit.

yes, the article was revised after that was discovered. thanks!

Yeah, well I’m sure you have great success using a popup flash for lighting while recording short videos. I guess you just know more about cameras than everyone else, or physics works differently in your head, or whatever.
Yep... even if it was a continuous HSS "flash" or video light, the power draw would be substantial leading to further complaints on battery life.

A new sensor size/shape and a built-in fan in a fixed-lens compact camera sounds pretty "edgy" to me. They could have just done a minor update to the PowerShot G7 X, but they decided to go far beyond that.

Look at Sigma when you want to see something edgy. The G7X II already had a 1.5 inch sensor and a fan isn't such a new (or good) concept either. No photographer wants sand and dust getting sucked into their camera. Look inside your PC if you wanna see how that looks like.
This is a safe bet camera that will sell well and be quickly forgotten as soon as the next best thing releases (which won't take long given its mediocre specs).
