Dragonflies and Damselflies

This freshly hatched black-tailed skimmer seems to have got into trouble while hatching.
Look at the head position! During a few minutes of observation, it didn't move the head.
Either it was performing some kind of yoga or I suppose severe problems with the neck :(

Large red damselies.

I really like the first picture.

First try with the R6m2 on a damselfly IF. Quite easy to get with the new AF system.
A goblet-marked damselfly (erythromma lindenii).

The R5 also did quite well today on an Emperor in flight. It was less than 3m away, and worth cropping to a portrait. It was quite trial as he wouldn't hover and I had to catch him in full flight.

As you have asked.
Really great.

My wrist ached after tracking it for ages to get a shot with the RF 100-500. I might use the RF 100-400mm in future as it is so much lighter and also easy to pan with.
Of course that's not nice for you and your wrist.
But thank you for that comment, because it shows me, that it's not only me having problems with tracking and panning and getting the AF locked on the DIF.

When they are darting backwards and forwards and mainly against reeds, it's very difficult. Also, 500mm is more difficult than 400mm, and I often zoom out to 400mm for difficult panning.

Here are my best tries so far this season with the R6m2.
Much further away than yours, @AlanF. Maybe 10 m, cropped to 1800x1200
Last one is the sharpest, but wing position is not so nice.
R6m2, RF100-500L, @500mm, f/10, 1/1250, ISO1600-4000
